tax impact

The Community Task Force carefully evaluated facility needs, community priorities, and financial considerations to develop a recommendation that supports students while providing long-term value for taxpayers.

If approved by voters on Tuesday, November 3, the proposed plan would result in an estimated tax increase of $5.60 per month for a home valued at approximately $150,000—the average home value in the United South Central School District.

Tax Credit

Heading (31).png

Minnesota’s Ag2School Tax Credit helps lower the cost of school building bond projects for qualifying agricultural property owners. The state pays 70% of the school building bond tax on eligible agricultural land and buildings (excluding the house, garage, and one acre), and the credit is automatically applied to eligible properties. For United South Central, this credit is estimated to fund approximately 54% of the total bond payments associated with the proposed referendum.

Many homeowners may qualify for Minnesota’s Homestead Credit Refund Program, which provides property tax refund based on household income and total property taxes paid. If eligible, the proposed referendum may make you eligible for a refund or increase the amount of your existing refund. Homeowners must apply through the Minnesota Department of Revenue by filing Form M1PR.
